Youth Program

Shalom of Oakland hosts an After School Program for 1st through 8th graders during the school year and a Day Camp during the summer.  We use our time together as a training ground for a whole and healthy life.  Young people are taught and encouraged in spiritual, social and academic dimensions.  Our program includes...

  • Daily teaching/storytelling from Bible during our Devotional Time
  • Guided art projects
  • Keyboard lessons
  • Gardening
  • Music and Singing
  • A full lunch during the summer and snacks during the school year
  • Tutoring and homework assistance during the school year
  • Basketball and flag football outside
  • Other games including pool and air hockey
  • Computers with Internet access

We care about multiple dimensions of each student's development...

Spiritual: Our youth program teaches young people to become followers of Jesus in every dimension of life.  Throug teaching, discussion, pray, singing and mentoring, we help participants apply Biblical ideas into real life.  Ultimately we believe that each young person has the potential to not only be a disciple of Jesus but a leader who impacts this world for good according to their unique gifts and abilities.

Social: We teach young people to love their fellow human beings.  This involves teaching, storytelling, modeling from leadership and moment-by-moment encouragment and correction as necessary.  We hope to combat the spirit of violence, disunity and distrust.

Academic: We help young people succeed in school and grow mentally.  Through daily tutoring, help with homework and reading sessions, we stand by these students and work with them step by step.  When time allows, creative and fun learning activities are employed to continually challenge and stretch the mind.  Our goal is that students in our program would excel in school, graduate from high school and eventually enroll and graduate from college.
